Who built Flux, and why that matters

Black Forest Labs was founded in August 2024 by Robin Rombach, Andreas Blattmann, Dominik Lorenz and Patrick Esser — the researchers who published the original Stable Diffusion paper at LMU Munich. In other words, the people who invented today's paradigm for AI generation left to build something better.

Flux.1 uses a hybrid Rectified Flow Transformer architecture that processes text and image in the same latent space. The result: far tighter prompt adherence than separate models manage, and photorealistic quality beyond the previous generations.

Independent 2025 benchmark (Artificial Analysis, LMSYS): Flux.1 Pro placed first for photorealism and prompt adherence against DALL-E 3, Midjourney v6 and Stable Diffusion 3.5. On human anatomy, Flux recorded the lowest error score.

💡 A negative prompt for portraits — clears up the artefacts

Always add a negative prompt: bad anatomy, extra fingers, deformed hands, blurry, watermark, low quality, cartoon, oversaturated — it cuts anatomy errors dramatically.

LoRA fine-tuning — the feature that changes everything

Unlike DALL-E and Midjourney, Flux supports LoRA (Low-Rank Adaptation) — you train the model on 10-30 specific images and then generate content that stays consistent with that subject:

Frequently asked questions

Is Flux better than DALL-E 3 / GPT Image?
On photorealism, correct anatomy and precise prompt adherence — yes, Flux wins clearly in the independent benchmarks. GPT Image (DALL-E) stays ahead on legible text in images and on editing driven by complex instructions.
Does Flux support LoRA fine-tuning?
Yes. Flux Dev (open source) supports LoRA natively. With 10-30 images you can train the model on a face, a product or a brand's visual style. The results are a marked step up from generating without fine-tuning.
What is the difference between Flux Schnell and Flux Pro?
Schnell: 1-4 denoising steps, generation in 2-5 seconds, free (Apache 2.0), good quality for general use. Pro: top quality, commercial API, the one to use for final production deliverables — available on Viralio.
Can I try Flux.1 Pro for free?
Viralio gives you free credits at sign-up, and they cover Flux Pro. No card, no API setup. Flux Schnell is permanently free, within monthly limits.
